Robotic systems plus molded article inspection cells are being integrated with traditional injection molding machinery. Reduction in the costs, advancements in automation technologies and system integration capabilities are cited as major factors for growth. Technology that was once reserved for large corporations, like automobile manufacturers with huge facilities and vast floor space, is now being scaled down and integrated into mid-sized and smaller manufacturers, according to the company. The automated production cells allow molders to run equipment for extended periods of time with limited human interaction. These cells utilize robots moving with precision, accuracy and repeatability that integrate with the company's injection machine. Continuous vulcanization
The HeatStraD encompasses a measuring device for the development of heating strategies for continuous vulcanization. The vulcanization unit is able to simultaneously or sequentially heat rubber profiles by means of hot air, infrared radiation and microwave, and can measure the heating pattern of the profiles in cross-section. These measurements make it possible to identify an optimal combination of the various forms of energy transmission, with which profiles can be homogeneously heated, for different materials. By analyzing the power consumption of the plant, the system can also evaluate the energy efficiency of the developed vulcanization and heating strategy.

Silicone rubber part curing The No. 932 is an electrically-heated, 500F cabinet oven, currently used for curing large silicone rubber parts. Workspace dimensions measure 50" wide by 50" deep by 50" high. Incoloy-sheathed tubular heating elements with 60 kW power installed and a 2,450 cfm, 1-1/2 hp recirculating blower provide horizontal airflow to the workload. This cabinet oven features 4" insulated walls, an aluminized steel exterior, a Type 430 stainless steel interior, a brushed stainless steel control panel face, heavy duty doors and a door frame with explosion-venting latches, and a 325 cfm powered forced exhauster. The oven is supported by I-beams to allow the loading cart's front wheels to extend under the oven during loading.

GeoTrans is an extrusion technology that provides the ability to adjust the cross-section of a silicone extrusion in a continuous process, eliminating the need for a secondary assembly, bonding or overmolding. The process can be made to both the inside and outside diameter, and includes different wall thickness of tubes. GeoTrans is a proprietary process that allows the company to change the geometry of a tube on the fly. One application for this technology is pacemaker lead wires. Medical extrusion tooling The Micro Medical is an extrusion crosshead that uses micro-fine adjustment screws for precise concentricity adjustment. The precision of concentricity reaches 0.008" or finer per revolution. Twin-screw extruder system
The ZSE 50 MAXX twin screw extruder system features a modular design for barrels and screws, and an insulated barrel cover. The system's extended length facilitates multiple downstream operations, including multi-stage venting, liquid injection and up to two LSB 50 XX side stuffers for filler/fiber introduction into the melt stream. The ZSE 50 MAXX is said to be ideal for wide ranging compounding, and can be equipped with a 600 HP AC motor and produce 1,000 kgs+/hour at 1,200 screws rpms. The LSB XX series is supplied with a high OD/ID ratio of the screws (2.0), and can also convey materials with very low bulk densities. The screws can be segmented. Twin-screw extruder
The ZSE 18 3D filament system consists of loss-in-weight feeders, the ZSE 18 co-rotating twin-screw extruder, gear pump, die to produce 1 to 5 mm 3D filaments, a custom air rack for air quench cooling and sizing of the filament, belt puller, laser gauge and winder. The control system will integrate closed-loop pressure control to ensure a tight tolerance product. The ZSE 18 system is said to be ideal for in-line compounding of polymers with additives and active fillers to quickly develop new filaments and formulations. ZE-CN twin-screw extruder enhances output The ZE-CN twin-screw extruder is said to feature 15% higher output rates and up to 20% more flexibility in terms of process applications compared to previous ZE Performance series models. The ZE-CN is said to have a powerful drive train, and screw elements and shafts made of special material have allowed the torque density to be increased to 12.0 Nm/cm3. As compared to the previous series, compounders are said to achieve about 15% higher output rates with torque-limited processes owing to the raised torque. In addition, the ZE-CN series offers an extended range of 4 and 6D barrel housings to precisely tailor the processing section to specific customer requirements. All barrel housings are said to be characterized by precise temperature control. While cooling is based on cooling water injection, high-performance electric cartridge heaters are used for direct and rapid heating. The c-clamp flange system facilitates assembly and disassembly of the barrel housings and substantially reduces set-up times during barrel housing changes, according to the company. The standard equipment comprises the sturdy base frame designed to accommodate the temperature control units and the oil lubrication system. The state-of-the-art control software can be seamlessly integrated into the digital factory, ready for Industry 4.0. The on-board operating panel with display of all important extruder information is said to save time and provide enhanced ease of use.
