Michelin unveils two new summer tire ranges

Clermont Ferrand, France — Michelin has unveiled two new summer tire ranges, the MICHELIN Primacy 5 energy and MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 energy, aimed at addressing evolving mobility demands by combining performance with energy efficiency.

The company said the new tires respond to changing environmental, technological and economic pressures in the automotive sector, emphasizing that performance, longevity and energy efficiency are no longer trade-offs but can be achieved simultaneously.

Michelin described the launches as part of a broader shift in which tires are becoming increasingly complex, serving not only as safety components but also as advanced technologies designed to meet the needs of modern vehicles, including internal combustion, hybrid and fully electric models.

The MICHELIN Primacy 5 energy is positioned as a premium option for everyday driving, featuring top ratings for wet braking, rolling resistance and external noise. The company said the tire improves braking distance by 8% compared with its predecessor and offers the longest mileage in its segment, while also delivering fuel savings and extended electric vehicle range.

Michelin added that the Primacy 5 energy can reduce fuel consumption by up to 6% and increase electric vehicle range by as much as 10%, contributing to lower operating costs and reduced emissions.

The MICHELIN Pilot Sport 5 energy, meanwhile, targets drivers seeking high-performance handling alongside improved efficiency. The tire incorporates motorsport-derived technology and a new grip compound to enhance traction and precision on both wet and dry surfaces.

According to the company, the Pilot Sport 5 energy also improves longevity through optimized contact with the road surface, while reducing rolling resistance to levels uncommon in the sports tire segment. Its performance capabilities were validated during a high-speed endurance test, maintaining speeds up to 300 kilometers per hour over several days.

Michelin said both tire ranges have already been recognized by major automakers and are designed to meet increasingly strict requirements for efficiency, grip, durability and safety. The company added that the products can help manufacturers improve electric vehicle range and reduce fuel consumption across multiple powertrain types.
