Purdue, TSMC extend partnership on semiconductor research

Purdue University continues to advance semiconductor workforce development by renewing a strong partnership between industry leader Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. and the university’s Center for Secure Microelectronics Ecosystem.
The renewal of TSMC’s membership in CSME represents the desire by both sides to expand their collaborative scope through additional workforce development and research programs through 2031. CSME started in 2021 as a first-of-its-kind global partnership of academia; industry, including TSMC; and government to advance research and workforce development in designing secure microelectronics.

Wacker uses biomethanol in the manufacture of silicone-based textile softeners

Munich, Germany – WACKER is now applying its resource-efficient silicones production concept to the manufacture of textile softeners. With immediate effect, three functional silicone fluids are available as “eco” products: WETSOFT® eco LV 810, WACKER® FINISH eco WR 1100 LV and WACKER® FINISH eco WR 1300 LV. Instead of fossil methanol, WACKER uses plant-based methanol for the manufacture of these products. The method, which is based on the biomass balance method used in production, has now been certified by TÜV Nord according to the REDcert standard.

USTMA urges Congress to implement sustainable transportation and infrastructure policies

As the Biden administration begins implementation of the historic Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) is urging congressional leadership to continue working on tire policy and related transportation sustainability initiatives. While the IIJA includes several provisions that would advance scrap tire markets and improve the resiliency of the nation’s infrastructure, USTMA has identified six specific policy proposals – ranging from tax incentives to additional research dollars and procurement commitments – that will strengthen the American tire manufacturing industry and help the country develop roadways with the future in mind.

Apollo Tyre and Manchester United launch United We Play 2.0

Apollo Tyres has announced the launch of the second season of United We Play, the on-ground selection trials in association with Manchester United. Subject to regulations and restrictions around Covid-19, the grassroots program is scheduled to begin in February 2022 and will go on till April this year. Through two rounds of selection trials, Apollo Tyres and Manchester United Soccer School coaches will select 3 – 5 young footballers to visit the iconic Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester as well as the opportunity to participate in a training session.
