Elkem re-starts one furnace in Salten

Elkem re-started one out of three furnaces at its silicon plant in Salten, Norway. Production will remain halted at the two other furnaces until further notice.
A fire broke out at the Salten plant in Norway on 10 December 2023. The fire started in a building housing raw material, including carbon materials. It was under control by emergency services and mostly extinguished within 24 hours.

Yokohama Rubber and RAOT hold their sixth joint seminar event in support of natural rubber farmers in Thailand

The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced that, together with the Surat Thani branch of the Rubber Authority of Thailand (RAOT), it held a seminar event in December 2023 to help Thai natural rubber farmers improve the quality and productivity of their natural rubber. Seventy farm households in the Surat Thani area participated in the event. Each participating household received a complimentary 250 kg of fertilizer developed using RAOT’s specialist knowledge. The seminar is the sixth held by Yokohama Rubber and RAOT since 2020

Yokohama Rubber to expand production capacity at its Philippines passenger car tire subsidiary

The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced its decision to expand the production capacity of Yokohama Tire Philippines, Inc. (YTPI), its passenger car tire production and sales subsidiary in the Philippines. Yokohama Rubber plans to invest about 3.5 billion pesos (about ¥8.4 billion) to expand the plant’s daily output capacity to 32,500 tires, an increase of 1,800 tires/day. In addition to expanding capacity of tire sizes currently being produced, the planned expansion will include a new line that will expand YTPI’s size lineup to 21- and 22-inch tires.
