General Motors (GM) recently announced significant layoffs, impacting over 1,000 salaried employees in its software and services division. This decision comes as part of a broader strategy to streamline operations and enhance efficiency. The layoffs will affect employees across various locations, including Michigan, California, Texas, and Canada. GM spokesperson Kevin Kelly stated that the company aims to simplify its structure to achieve speed and excellence, making bold choices to prioritize impactful investments.

Malaysia’s natural rubber production increased 16.8 percent to 29,914 tons in June month-on-month, according to official data. The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that year-on-year comparison showed the production of natural rubber rose 0.2 percent. Meanwhile, total stocks of natural rubber in June decreased 8.5 percent month on month to 160,535 tons. Exports of Malaysia’s natural rubber fell 21.6 percent month-on-month to 39,800 tons in June. As for the second quarter, Malaysia’s natural rubber production fell to 76,848 tons

Sumitomo Rubber North America, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd., announced that Sam Williams has been promoted to Director of Sales for Commercial Truck Tires.

Williams has spent more than 30 years working in the automotive aftermarket industry, with experience in sales, store management, multi-unit management, business development, marketing, operations, buying, merchandising, strategic planning, and vendor relations

According to the announcement, the total investment of the project is about 4.62 billion yuan ($645 million USD), and it is planned to be constructed on the existing land in the plant area, including civil works, equipment purchase, 24MW photovoltaic power generation project, etc. The project will be financed through self-financing and bank loans.

Tire distributor Tire Group International (TGI) announces it has acquired Avaun Tire Supply, a wholesale distributor based in Portland, Ore.

Avaun and TGI have been partners since Avaun was founded in 2016 by Sherko Rasouli and Freddie Capshaw.

“This strategic move is part of TGI’s ongoing expansion plans in key markets across the USA, reinforcing its commitment to growth and customer service,” TGI said in a news release.
