Smithers announces the launch of Virtual Tire Lab, a unique, comprehensive toolset for analyzing raw data and comparing, contrasting, and adjusting virtual tire models for use in design analysis, simulation, and model certification. Virtual Tire Lab utilizes an annual subscription model to provide clients with access to a library of passenger and light truck tire models. During the subscription period, models are added to the Virtual Tire Lab library and include a variety of popular brands, sizes, and categories; such as all-weather, all-season, and EV-specific tires. All models are MF6.2 UM14 Handling Models.

Continental’s Portugal plant now produces CO2-neutral tires

Continental now produces CO2-neutrally tires at its tire plant in Lousado, Portugal. The tire manufacturer has thus taken an important step towards its goal of completely CO2-neutral production. This is possible thanks to the generation of steam using a boiler, that operates entirely on electricity. Continental uses both self-generated solar power and renewable electricity from the power grid for its steam generation. Before, natural gas was used as sole energy source for steam generation at the Lousado tire plant. In the tire industry, a large proportion of the energy consumed is used to generate steam, which is needed to heat the tires, a process known as vulcanization.

Yokohama Rubber announces participation in sustainable procurement project

The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced that it is participating as a collaborating organization in a Japan Ministry of the Environment (MoE) project using advanced technology for evaluating and verifying sustainable procurement of natural capital from the ASEAN region (hereafter, “the Project”), which is being implemented as one of the Japan government’s Cabinet Office programs for “Bridging the gap between R&d and the IDeal society (society 5.0) and Generating Economic and social value (BRIDGE).” The Project was selected for funding by the Environmental Restoration and Conservation Agency of Japan (ERCA), an independent administrative institution, under its program for overseas surveys and compliance with international rules targeting the procurement of recycled resources such as metals and natural resources in foreign countries.

Yokohama Rubber posts record sales for first quarter

The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced its business and financial results for the first quarter of fiscal 2024 (January to March 2024). Sales revenue increased 23.5% over the same period of the previous year, to 252.4 billion yen; business profit increased 91.0%, to 24.9 billion yen; operating profit increased 102.6%, to 26.8 billion yen; and profit attributable to owners of parent increased 104.0%, to 19.8 billion yen.
