Wacker to showcase silicone products for medical applications at COMPAMED

At this year’s COMPAMED medical technology trade show, WACKER is showcasing a range of silicone products for medical applications. One of the highlights is the highly adhesive silicone gel SILPURAN® 2124 which is making its debut at the trade fair. This silicone adhesive is suitable for producing adhesive layers required for atraumatic wound dressings and for fixing so-called wearables and other devices worn on the skin. Also in the spotlight is a selection of ELASTOSIL® eco solid and liquid silicone rubber grades, which are produced on the basis of biomethanol by a resource-efficient process. The company will also present ELASTOSIL® LR 3078 liquid silicone rubber, which is self-adhesive to polycarbonate and other high-performance plastics. COMPAMED takes place from November 13 to 16 as part of the MEDICA trade fair in Düsseldorf, Germany.

Scientists observe the molecular motion of rubber components in tires

An international research team led by scientists from the University of Tokyo, Ibaraki University, and European XFEL has now observed the molecular motion within samples of polybutadiene and carbon black, which occurs naturally as a result of the material structure, with a time resolution of 890 nanoseconds (billionths of a second)—the fastest resolution obtained in such studies so far—at the European XFEL’s SPB/SFX instrument.

The latest Pirelli marking was used for the first time on the P Zero E. This tire contains more than 55% of materials of bio-based and recycled origin* throughout the entire range at launch, as certified by Bureau Veritas: a world leader in verifying conformity and certification in quality, environment, health, safety, and social responsibility standards (ISO14021). Third-party verification of eco-compatible materials will continue to be standard across all future products that adopt the new logo.
