Nitrofreeze cryogenic deflashing with fine blast media improves molded LSR

Worcester, MA – Nitrofreeze® Cryogenic Solutions is providing molders of liquid silicone rubber (LSR) with a faster and more efficient way to get flash-free parts without any waste. Since Nitrofreeze® cryogenic deflashing uses fine blast media that won’t damage LSR parts, molders don’t have to run more parts than they need to account for scrap during deflashing. Molders can save time and money during production, get back 100% of the parts that they send to Nitrofreeze®, and receive parts that look the same as when molded but without any flash.

During Nitrofreeze® cryogenic flashing, batches of molded parts are cooled below LSR’s glass transition temperature (Tg) so that the flash becomes hard, brittle, and easy to remove. The parts are then blasted with a specified cryogenic-grade polycarbonate media that comes in different diameters to finish part features without impacting critical surface tolerances or altering part geometry. This proven process is especially efficient at removing flash from cross-holes, blind holes, and other geometries that are hard to reach with hand tools.

Nitrofreeze® cryogenic deflashing is an automated, computer-controlled batch process that can remove flash from tens to thousands of molded LSR parts all at the same time. This patented process will not change part tolerances or surface finish, is more consistent than hand trimming, and is safe for molded liquid silicone rubber in both medical and non-medical applications. The speed and consistency of this automated deflashing process is especially attractive, and it won’t damage LSR parts the way that some other deflashing processes can.

“Nitrofreeze® provides proven deflashing solutions to LSR molders day in and day out,” said Ryan M. Taylor, the company’s Assistant General Manager. “We’ve successfully removed mold flash from liquid silicone rubber products in both medical and non-medical applications. Whether you’re a medical molder, a medical device company, or a provider of industrial LSR products, you’ll get back all of the parts that you send to us. We invite you to contact us for a no-cost cryogenic deflashing evaluation.”
