The Tire Industry Project announces the launch of Open Call for Projects
Geneva, Switzerland – The Tire Industry Project (TIP) announced the launch of its first Open Call for Projects (OCP). The initiative seeks project submissions that contribute to the definition of new research fields and agendas to help advance sustainability practices and environmental stewardship within the tire industry on a global scale.
“The Open Call for Projects attests to TIP’s commitment to supporting high quality scientific research and evidence-based progress focused on the mitigation of tire wear emissions and their diverse impact. We are reaching out to further broaden TIP’s relationships with researchers and experts in this field,” says Larisa Kryachkova, Executive Director at TIP.
For this first OCP, TIP intends to provide financial support to research projects focused on:
The assessment and measurement of tire wear emissions, i.e., material produced during the use phase of a tire.
The development of mitigation measures, advancing the evaluated technologies towards demonstration in the relevant environment.
Projects eligible for funding under the OCP are expected to introduce novel research concepts, preferentially leading to publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and integrating activities that include, but are not limited to:
Field sampling campaigns (air, water, soil and, sediment)
Chemical and particle characterization of emissions
Data analysis and modeling of tire wear emissions distribution in the environment
Development of TRWP and leachate mitigation measures and/or advancing the evaluated mitigation technologies
Interested parties are encouraged to visit https://tireindustryproject.org/open-call-for-projects/ for more information on the OCP, including details on the selection process. The deadline for proposal submission is January 17, 2025 (17:00 CET). An evaluation committee consisting of both TIP Members and external experts will be tasked with the review and selection of applications.
The OCP is an important component of TIP’s workplan for 2024 and 2025, focused on research and action for sustainability in the tire lifecycle. In December 2024, TIP will hold its first Tire Emissions Research Conference (https://tireemissionsresearchconference.org/), dedicated exclusively to discussing scientific research in tire emissions.
