Prinx Chengshan Tire North America recalls over half a million winter tires
Los Angeles, CA – Prinx Chengshan Tire North America, Inc. (PCTNA) has announced a recall of over 541,000 winter tires due to insufficient snow traction. The recall affects more than 100 sizes of Fortune Tormenta and Prinx Hicountry tires, which were sold as replacement tires in the U.S. These tires, marked with the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol, passed European traction tests but failed to meet North American standards.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlighted that tires lacking adequate snow traction could significantly increase the risk of accidents. PCTNA is currently developing a solution to address the issue. Affected tire owners will receive notification letters starting February 1, 2025, with instructions on how to proceed.
This recall underscores the importance of adhering to regional safety standards, especially for products like winter tires that are critical for safe driving in snowy conditions. PCTNA has urged customers with questions to contact their customer service for further assistance.
