Trained as a manufacturing and industrial engineer, he has held senior leadership positions at major global companies including Global Rubber Industries (GRI) and Elastomeric/Hexpol AB, where he pioneered sustainable tire technologies, lean manufacturing practices, and digital engineering solutions. Beyond his corporate journey, Dr. Ranatunga has been an influential educator and curriculum developer, mentoring generations of engineers and strengthening the link between academia and industry. Today, as Director General of the Sri Lanka Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Rubber Products (SLAMERP) and Chairman of the Sri Lanka State Plantations Corporation, he plays a central role in shaping the future of Sri Lanka’s rubber and plantation sectors.
