UTPVision inspects differently with artificial intelligence

Alessandro, Italy – Vision systems have been an integral part of industrial quality control processes for several years now and they play a crucial role in increasing productivity while minimizing inspection errors.

UTPVision designs, manufactures and markets automatic vision inspection equipment for quality control of rubber and plastic parts, from statistical sampling to full volume production. Combining real time monitoring with advanced image processing tools, UTPVision systems deliver high performance and consistent results throughout the entire quality inspection process.

UTPVision has extensive know-how in all key areas of vision inspection systems: software, mechanics, electronics, illumination and imaging components. This broad skill set is reflected in the design of our standard machines, which are optimally configured for the most commonly required inspection tasks but also easy to tailor to more unique inspection needs. From accurate dimensional measurement to critical surface defect detection, our systems are up to the challenge even in extremely demanding applications.

UTPVision is constantly striving to offer increasingly better solutions, both in terms of hardware and software. This continuous innovation mindset led to the integration of artificial intelligence, which revolutionizes the traditional image processing methods based on manually set thresholds. UTPVision’s AI software is able to easily identify objects (with defined shapes) and surface defects (with undefined shapes). The operator just needs to collect a set of sample images that well represent the range of defects. Thanks to SuperVised Learning (SVL), the machine can be quickly trained to classify objects and detect defects according to the user’s needs. This approach is independent of the variables that require frequent manual adjustments, resulting in less downtime and reduced inspection errors.

Another cutting-edge technology is the patented color illumination, consisting of 4 wavelengths (green, blue, red, yellow) with independent brightness control; by mixing up the different wavelengths, even very subtle surface defects can be detected regardless of the color and surface finish of the sample. This innovative illumination technique increases the efficiency of the inspection process and reduces the number of “false positives” (i.e. good parts that are wrongly rejected).

Lastly, UTPVision recently introduced MaviX, a dedicated software for monitoring and managing visual inspection systems in real-time, specifically designed for use in the rubber industry. MaviX is the perfect solution to streamline the use of multiple inspection machines and implement data-driven quality control processes.

Since 2008, UTPVision has been able to satisfy the growing demand for automated inspection equipment in the rubber and plastics industry by developing a dedicated line of vision inspection machines, entirely designed and manufactured at our two production sites in Bergamo, Italy.

UTPVision systems are available worldwide through a broad sales and service network, which was further expanded with the recent addition of UTPVision USA, the North American sales office located in Hanover (MA), just 20 miles south of Boston. We are where are customers are and we meet them where they are.
