Zeon Corporation signs joint development agreement with JCCL

Tokyo, Japan – Zeon Corporation has signed a joint development agreement with JCCL Inc. a startup originating from Kyushu University, which is advancing the development and commercialization of lowcost, high-efficiency CO2 separation and recovery technology, to further improve the performance of JCCL’s CO2 absorbents, develop mass production technologies, and scale up JCCL’s CO2 separation and recovery systems.

JCCL manufactures high-performance CO2 absorbents and designs and manufactures CO2 capture systems that enable low-cost processes for reducing global CO2 emissions. The distinctive feature of these systems is that CO2 is efficiently absorbed by the absorbent and can be easily desorbed and recovered by simply supplying low-temperature steam at 40–60°C. The systems can also effectively reuse waste heat that would otherwise be lost and recover CO2 using low-pressure steam without requiring significant temperature changes. It is therefore expected to reduce thermal energy consumption and lower the costs associated
with CO2 capture.

Zeon aims to accelerate the development of CO2 separation and recovery products and achieve their early practical application in society by combining JCCL’s ability to provide a one-stop solution for material R&D, performance evaluation, equipment engineering, and process design for CO2 separation and recovery with Zeon’s advanced material design and mass-production technologies gained through its work as a polymer design company.
