Global elastomers market projected to reach $149 billion by 2034

Pune, India – The global elastomers market is projected to grow to $149.19 billion by 2034, driven by demand from the automotive industry, electric vehicle production and increased interest in recyclable materials, according to a market analysis released by Maximize Market Research.

The market was valued at $104.73 billion in 2025 and is forecast to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 4.01% from 2026 through 2034, the research firm said in a news release published Oct. 1.

Elastomers are flexible materials used in products that require durability, resistance to wear and the ability to return to their original shape. Applications include automotive seals, hoses, belts, gaskets, medical devices, electronics and industrial components.

Automotive remained the largest application segment in 2025, while thermoset elastomers accounted for the leading share by material type, according to the report. Thermoplastic elastomers are gaining traction because of their processing flexibility, lighter weight and potential for recyclability.

Electric vehicle production is creating additional demand for elastomers used in charging cables, sealing systems and vibration-control components. Construction, health care, electronics and other industrial applications are also contributing to market demand.

Asia-Pacific held the largest regional market share, supported by automotive and tire manufacturing, construction activity and industrial production in countries including China, India, Japan and South Korea.

Manufacturers are increasingly investing in specialized materials and production capacity to address changing industrial requirements. The report cited Dow’s plans to invest about $100 million through 2027 to expand specialty silicone manufacturing and innovation capabilities in the United States, China and Japan.

Other developments include BASF’s commercial production of a flame-retardant thermoplastic polyurethane grade in Shanghai, Getzner Werkstoffe’s opening of a polyurethane elastomer facility in Baramati, India, and SaarGummi’s expansion of operations in Chennai for automotive sealing systems.

Despite the projected growth, the industry faces challenges from fluctuations in crude oil and synthetic rubber prices, environmental concerns related to material disposal, limited recycling options for cured elastomers and increasingly stringent regulatory requirements, the report said.

Manufacturers are pursuing bio-based feedstocks, low-emission formulations, recyclable materials and specialized elastomers designed for automotive, medical and electronic applications.

Maximize Market Research said the industry is expected to continue shifting toward materials that combine performance, durability and sustainability through 2034.

The report covers thermoset and thermoplastic elastomers, natural and synthetic rubber, processing methods, applications, regional demand and competitive developments.
