Leistritz to host twin-screw extrusion workshop in New Jersey

Branchburg, NJ — Leistritz Extrusion will host its 2026 Plastics Twin Screw Extrusion Workshop Dec. 2-3 in Branchburg, New Jersey, bringing together technical instruction and hands-on demonstrations covering plastics compounding, devolatilization, reactive extrusion and direct extrusion.

Classroom sessions will take place at the Hyatt House Branchburg, with interactive demonstrations scheduled at the Leistritz Process Development Laboratory, about three miles away. Transportation to and from the laboratory will be provided.

Leistritz said more than 5,000 people have attended its seminars and educational events since the company held its first twin-screw workshop in 1991. The program is designed to help participants learn about processing a range of plastic formulations using twin-screw extrusion technology.

The first day will focus on classroom instruction, including co-rotating and counter-rotating twin-screw extrusion, dispersive and distributive mixing, multistage process operations, devolatilization techniques and process scale-up.

Additional topics will include feeding and material handling for pellets, powders and liquids; gear pumps and screen changers; strand-cut, water-ring and underwater pelletizing; and die and downstream systems for sheet, film, fibers, tubes and profiles. Reactive processing, foaming, coextrusion, process troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, controls and monitoring also are on the agenda.

The second day will feature interactive equipment demonstrations at the Leistritz Process Development Laboratory. Participants will see twin-screw extruders in operation and demonstrations of devolatilization using ambient, vacuum-assisted and multistage venting. Other sessions will cover feeding pellets, powders, liquids and fibers; adding fillers and fibers downstream; and die-face and strand pelletizing systems.

The demonstrations also will address direct sheet and film extrusion using a gear-pump front end, along with the assembly, disassembly and cleaning of twin-screw elements and maintenance of screws, shafts and barrels.

A panel discussion and individual meetings are scheduled for the second day, with the workshop concluding at 3 p.m.

Leistritz Extrusion USA employees and industry experts will contribute to the program. The registration fee includes handout materials, lunch both days and a dinner reception on the first day.

Registration costs $1,080 per attendee through Nov. 1 and $1,280 after that date. The company said space is limited and previous workshops have sold out.

The workshop will be held at Hyatt House Branchburg, 3141 Route 22 East, in Branchburg. Attendees will receive hotel and logistical information after registering.
