ARPM releases newly updated IP-1 Conveyor and Elevator Belt Handbook and OS-14 Sealing Standard

Indianapolis, IN – ARPM announced the newly updated IP-1 Conveyor and Elevator Belt Handbook, which includes a new chapter presenting an energy efficient label and scale.

Dan Parsons, ARPM technical coordinator for the conveyor belt committee shares, “The Conveyor Belt Committee is very excited to have completed the update of IP-1 – Conveyor and Elevator Belt Handbook. It contains many additions and updates throughout, and particularly to belt testing methods and mechanical splicing. A new chapter presenting an energy efficiency label and scale is a first and is expected to receive a lot of interest from the conveyor belt industry.”

Additionally, ARPM is pleased to announce the newly updated sealing standard, OS-14. This publication presents the recommended practice for measuring thickness & bond strength of O.D. coatings for radial lip type oil seals.

Greg Vassmer, ARPM technical coordinator for dynamic seals explains, “Most attention for radial lip seals is on the dynamic interface between the sliding rubber seal and the rotating shaft. In OS-14 we consider the other interface – that between the outside diameter of the seal and the bore into which it is pressed. Since bores are generally rough surfaces, a filler resin is usually applied to the outer surface of the seal to close any gaps once the seal has been pressed into the bore. OS-14 informs users and manufacturers of the steps to take to ensure the filler resin is both thick enough and strong enough to remain in place while the seal is pressed in, ensuring a leak-free seal. OS-14 describes several methods for measuring the resin thickness and techniques for evaluating how well the resin is bonded to the seal. For those interested in ensuring consistent performance and leak free behavior on the OD of their seals, OS-14 will help.”

Special thanks for the ARPM Conveyor Belt Committee and the ARPM Sealing Committee for their expertise in updating these standards.
