Shin-Etsu develops a heat-shrinkable silicone rubber tubing for busbar covering

Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. has developed a ST-OR Type heat-shrinkable silicone rubber tubing for busbar covering for the first time in the industry.

A busbar is a conductive metallic strip, typically made of copper or aluminum, and is used for power connection or distribution. Fraunhofer IWM explores the impact of a potential PFAS ban with Freudenberg experts

The family of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) is facing intense scrutiny. A reporting rule will take effect in the United States in 2026, while Europe has actually been considering a sweeping, cross-industry ban on these substances since early last year. The implications of such a ban on fluoropolymers would be particularly critical, as a discontinuation of these high-performance materials would drastically impact many industries. But what kinds of challenges would emerge in the search for adequate substitutes? This was the focus of a recent study by the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials (IWM) in cooperation with materials experts from the Freudenberg Group.

1929 OM 665 Superba road trips 10,000 kilometers on Pirelli Collezione tires

A total of 10,400 kilometers were driven on Pirelli’s Stella Bianca tires – a reissue of the 1927 originals – with a car dating back to 1929 on a road trip to the most northerly point in Europe, without the need for a tire change. The epic journey was undertaken by a 1929 OM 665 Superba on Collezione tires, a range dedicated to historic collector cars from the 1920s to today. Setting off from Poggibonsi near Siena, the car driven by its owner Gianni Morandi and co-driver Marco Morosinotto, officially started its odyssey from Pirelli’s HQ in Milan. It arrived in Norway’s North Cape following a 15-day trip, returning to Italy after another two weeks. The whole adventure was undertaken using scenic routes, without a single kilometer of motorway. This was a landmark journey for Pirelli’s Stella Bianca tire, which has exactly the same vintage look as the original, but now uses materials and technologies that ensure greater safety.
