Ford to return to Le Mans in 2027

Ford Motor Company is returning to the top tier of prototype sports car racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship (FIA WEC) in 2027 looking to recapture the magic and success of Ford racing nearly 60 years ago.

Ford Performance will lead the charge with a full factory team entering FIA WEC with the aim of once more taking on the sport’s most demanding race – the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Goodyear completes sale of OTR tire business to Yokohama Rubber

The OTR business provides specialized tires for the mining & construction industries among others. The two companies’ agreement on the transaction was announced on July 22, 2024. Yokohama Rubber plans to include the acquired business in its consolidated results from the first quarter of 2025 and is currently examining the addition’s estimated impact on consolidated earnings.

The Rubber Division, ACS announces that Dr. Amit Das will speaking at the Spring Technical Meeting. Amit Das is a senior scientist at the Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research Dresden e. V. (IPF) and is also visiting professor at the Tampere University of Technology (TUT), Finland. He is an expert in the field of bio-inspired elastomer composites, smart-healing elastomers and electro active smart rubbers. Dr. Das was the 2016 recipient of the Sparks-Thomas Award for early career researchers and serves as associate editor of the Rubber Chemistry & Technology journal.

Orion S.A. signs supply agreement for tire pyrolysis oil with Contec S.A.

The agreement with Warsaw, Poland-based Contec further enables Orion to diversify its sources of tire pyrolysis oil, commonly known as TPO.
“With the ConPyro® TPO supplied by Contec, Orion will be able to make large-scale volumes of circular grades of carbon black that will supply growing demand from the world’s leading tire and rubber goods producers,” Orion CEO Corning Painter said. “This is yet another way that Orion is accelerating the transition to a circular economy.”

Researchers enhance silicone rubber with zirconia for gecko like grip

Researchers from the University of Minho in Portugal started with silicone rubber polymer and added zirconia nanoparticles to make the material attract water molecules. After they rolled the composite material into a thin film, they hardened it with heat and laser-etched a grooved pattern onto the film’s surface that exposed the hydrophilic zirconia nanoparticles. When the film encountered water molecules atop ice, it stuck to the slippery surface because the polymer mimicked the capillary action of slip-resistant gecko footpads.
