Jaguar Land Rover and Pirelli partner in FSC-Certified tires across full range of luxury vehicles

Jaguar Land Rover has joined forces with global tire manufacturer Pirelli in a global automotive industry‑first commitment to use FSC‑certified natural rubber tires across its range of modern luxury vehicles.

The luxury car manufacturer will be the first to adopt FSC‑certified tires at scale, transitioning all tires from Pirelli across its entire portfolio, debuting on the new Range Rover Electric. The commitment will amount to over 250,000 FSC‑certified tires per year.

BASF and ENGIE signed a long term biomethane purchase agreement

BASF uses certified biomethane at its Ludwigshafen/Germany and Antwerp/Belgium sites as a sustainable alternative to fossil raw materials in its manufacturing process. The approach supports the company’s sustainable transformation by reducing its carbon footprint. The biomethane amount is allocated to the end product using a third-party, globally recognized certification scheme, known as the Biomass Balance approach.

Yokohama Rubber to build a new passenger car tire plant in China

The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced today that it will build a new passenger car tire plant in China. The new plant will be located in the Qiantang New District of Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, and will have an initial annual production capacity of 9 million tires, with further expansion to be considered in the future. Planned capital investment is RMB1,960 million (approx. ¥36.7 billion), and production at the new plant is scheduled to start in the second quarter of 2026.

Elkem announces merger of subsidiary Elkem Testvirksomhet AS

The boards of directors Elkem ASA (“Elkem”) and its wholly owned subsidiary Elkem Testvirksomhet AS (formerly known as REC Solar Norway AS) have entered into a merger plan for the merger of Elkem Testvirksomhet AS (as the non-surviving entity) and Elkem (as the surviving entity). At completion of the merger, Elkem will acquire all assets and rights and assume all obligations of Elkem Testvirksomhet AS, and at the same time, Elkem Testvirksomhet AS will be dissolved as a legal entity.

Akron’s Sustainable Polymers Tech Hub to receive grant funding of approximately $51 million

The Sustainable Polymers Tech Hub, led by the Greater Akron Chamber, aims to tackle the severe climate and environmental impacts resulting from the use of fossil fuel-derived polymers (rubbers and plastics) through accelerating sustainable polymer manufacturing and commercialization in the United States. While polymers have long played an important role in American innovation, their conventional production has resulted in environmental challenges like greenhouse gas emissions and plastic pollution. This Tech Hub will pair the largest concentration of plastics and rubber manufacturing plants, machines, and materials in North America with regional R&D partnerships to establish global leadership in emissions-advantaged plastic and rubber technology.
