Enviro and Antin Infrastructure partners to create the world’s first large-scale tire recycling group, supported by Michelin

The volume of disposed end-of-life tires has been steadily growing to reach 3.5 million tons per year in Europe alone. While growth in end-of-life tires is forecasted to further accelerate in the next decade due to consumer and regulatory trends, the recycling technology, infrastructure and processes necessary to properly dispose of them at scale have not yet been effectively implemented until now. Today’s announcement to establish a sustainable solution to recycle end-of-life tires on an industrial scale marks a world first.

Bridgestone, Goodyear, Maxxis, Hankook and Michelin recognized by GM as Supplier of the Year

General Motors celebrated its top global suppliers during its annual Supplier of the Year event held in San Antonio, Texas. In total, 121 suppliers were recognized at the event, with 105 suppliers receiving a Supplier of the Year award, 14 suppliers receiving an Overdrive award and two suppliers receiving both Supplier of the Year and Overdrive awards. Collectively, the awarded suppliers represented 17 countries.

Yokohama cleared to acquire Trelleborg Wheel Systems by EU

The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., has announced that, on March 24, the European Commission granted unconditional antitrust clearance of the planned acquisition of all outstanding shares of Trelleborg Wheel Systems Holding AB (hereinafter, TWS), a Swedish company engaged in the manufacture and sale of off-highway tires for agricultural and industrial machinery, which was originally announced on March 25, 2022.

Wacker expands production of silicone sealants at Nünchritz site

In response to growing demand, the WACKER chemical group is expanding its production and cartridge filling capacities for silicone sealants at its Nünchritz site. The expansion will increase the company’s capability to supply customers, who contract WACKER to produce ready-to-use silicone sealants for their direct sales. Some €20 million has been budgeted for the new manufacturing lines, which are scheduled to begin production in the fall of 2024. Construction is expected to start before the end of this year, subject to approval from the regulatory authorities involved. The expansion project will create additional new jobs at the site.

EPA sues Denka to immediately reduce chloroprene emissions at Louisiana facility

The Department of Justice, on behalf of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), filed a motion for preliminary injunction under the Clean Air Act (CAA) requesting that the court order Denka Performance Elastomer LLC (Denka) to require significant pollution controls to reduce chloroprene emissions, a pollutant that EPA has determined to be a likely carcinogen. The request for immediate relief by EPA and the Justice Department follows the United States’ complaint filed on Feb. 28, alleging an imminent and substantial endangerment to the communities surrounding the facility as a result of Denka’s manufacturing operations.

Yokohama begins production of high load capacity tires

The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced that it has begun production and sales of HLC (high load capacity) tires to meet the needs of heavy duty passenger cars such as EVs and hybrid cars with high capacity batteries, as well as large SUVs. Having been developed as the original equipment (OE) on new cars and for their repairs, Yokohama Rubber will also develop products for the replacement market in line with market needs.
