Tires, another damaging waste stream in Puerto Rico; up to 18,000 tires being are disposed of daily on the island. The project aims to transform discarded tires into valuable resources, reduce landfill waste and contribute to a circular economy. There are significant import and export constraints on the island for plastics. By harnessing advancements in recycling technologies and circular design principles, the partners seek to make plastic recycling viable in Puerto Rico to reduce plastic waste issue and the island’s dependence on imports.

Tire manufacturers threatened with lawsuit over the use of 6PPD

Earthjustice, an environmental litigation group, notified over a dozen American tire manufacturers of their intent to sue them over violations of the Endangered Species Act if they do not stop the use of 6PPD. In the letter to the tire manufacturers Earthjustice gave the companies 60 days to cease the “unauthorized take of these species” before they engage in litigation against the manufacturers.

Bridgestone breaks ground on $550 million expansion in Tennessee

Bridgestone Americas (Bridgestone) celebrated the expansion of its Warren County, Tennessee Truck and Bus Radial (TBR) Tire Plant located in Morrison with an official groundbreaking ceremony today. China to continue halogenated rubber tariffs through 2024

China’s commerce ministry will continue to impose anti-dumping duties on imports of halogenated rubber originating in the United States, the European Union and Singapore.

The tariffs will remain in place until the conclusion of a final anti-dumping investigation into the rubber that is scheduled to end on Aug. 20, 2024, the ministry said in an announcement posted on its website.

Trendco to open nitrile glove plant in Tuskegee, Alabama

Trendco USA has committed to creating 292 jobs over five years at a facility in the new Regional East Alabama Logistics (REAL) Park off Interstate 85 in Macon County.
Trendco is an early-stage company that has been producing medical-grade examination gloves in Louisiana through a partnership with another company. For the Tuskegee operation, it plans up to install as many as 10 glove production lines at the REAL Park location.
