Rubber Division, ACS announced that they are once again making Cleveland, Ohio their anchor host city for the International Elastomer Conference on the odd number years. Exhibitors and attendees truly enjoy Cleveland as an IEC host city, and it has always proven to be a very successful IEC host. That, in combination with a proven history of strong participation from both attendees and exhibitors when in Cleveland, led to the decision. Exhibit space sales for IEC 2023 and 2024 will open soon.

Pirelli has doubled the total number of tire approvals on electric and plug-in hybrid cars in 2021. Since the launch of the ‘Elect’ marking in 2019, car manufacturers are increasingly choosing this technology and have allowed Pirelli to expand the homologation portfolio exceeding 250 total homologations on ‘green’ cars. This result confirms the acceleration of the market towards electrified mobility but also how carmakers find Pirelli Elect tires to have the most suitable characteristics for their electric vehicles. For example, the Audi A6 Avant e-tron concept, exhibited in the Pirelli stand at the “Tire Cologne” fair currently underway, which fits tires with technology for electrified cars. These facts lead Pirelli to estimate that it will reach already in 2022, three years ahead of schedule, its target for market share in high end EVs of around 1.5 times that of Premium/Prestige internal combustion vehicles.

– Hankook Tire & Technology (Hankook Tire) announced the opening of Hankook Technoring, a new proving ground in Taean, South Korea. The largest proving ground in Asia, it will serve as a state-of-the-art R&D facility for Hankook’s most advanced products to come.

To meet growing demand for silicone rubber, Wacker Chemie AG is accelerating the expansion of its production capacities. Investment projects to this end are either in the planning stage or are nearing completion. Significant capacity expansions for liquid silicone rubber (LSR) will be available in the second half of this year, and will come into full effect in 2023. Increasing production volumes for high consistency rubber (HCR) are also scheduled. With expansion measures at several other sites, WACKER will gradually increase its capacities for HCR and LSR grades significantly in the next few years. Over € 100 million have been earmarked for this capacity boost.
