The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company announced the latest additions to the Kelly Tire portfolio with the new Kelly Edge® Touring A/S and Kelly Edge® Sport. Both products are built to deliver all-around performance with the security and responsiveness today’s drivers demand and fit a sensible budget. Wacker Chemie AG closed Q1 2023 with lower sales and earnings. The Munich-based chemical company generated sales of €1.74 billion in the reporting quarter, down 16 percent over a year earlier (€2.08 billion). This decrease was chiefly due to lower volumes. Compared with the previous quarter (€1.83 billion), sales decreased by 5 percent.

The Tire Industry Project (TIP) has appointed Larisa Kryachkova as Executive Director, succeeding Anne-Cécile Rémont. Kryachkova will be based in Geneva and begins her appointment 1 May 2023.

Dr. Johannes Kilian, Vice President Process Technologies and inject 4.0 at ENGEL, is the new Vice President of Global Processing Engineering in the ENGEL Group. He is taking over this position from Prof. Dr. Norbert Müller, who has accepted an appointment as Professor for Plastics Processing at the Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences in Germany.

The Supervisory Board of Continental AG extended the appointment of CEO and chairman of the Executive Board Nikolai Setzer (52). Having been due to expire in March 2024, his contract will now run for a further five years until March 31, 2029. In a further resolution, Philipp von Hirschheydt (48) was appointed new Executive Board member for the Automotive group sector effective May 1, 2023. As planned, Setzer will thus hand over his additional responsibility for the Automotive group sector in order to concentrate on his duties as CEO. As is customary for a new board member, Philipp von Hirschheydt has been appointed for a term of three years until April 30, 2026.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited Continental’s location in Hanover-Stöcken. Since the tire plant was founded in 1938, the site has evolved into an innovative industrial campus that is home to, among other things, Continental’s largest tire research and development center and the company’s own manufacturing hub for tire-building machinery.

The newly launched Safic-Alcan East Africa is strategically located in Nairobi to better serve the East African market, including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The new office in Kenya will complement Safic-Alcan’s existing regional hubs in South Africa and Egypt, enabling the company to better cater to the needs of its growing customer base across the continent.

The Semperit Group announced that it will acquire 100% of the Austrian Rico Group GmbH, a supplier of silicone injection molds and manufacturer of liquid silicone components. The acquisition agreement was signed in Upper Austria. Closing is expected in the third quarter 2023.

The Detroit Rubber Group announces this year’s Spring Technical Meeting will take place Thursday, May 11th, at CJ’s Brewing Company inside of USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, MI. The doors open at 2:30PM, and the technical program is scheduled from 3:00PM to 4:00PM with Happy Hour to follow.
