Braskem collaborates with the University of British Columbia to develop technology for producing methanol from CO2

Braskem has announced a collaboration with the University of British Columbia (UBC) to explore the feasibility of using an electrochemical reactor to produce methanol from CO, an important intermediate that can be obtained from CO2 Capture and Conversion. The project, which will last one year, is fully funded by Braskem as part of its efforts to explore more sustainable production alternatives.

U.S. Medical Glove signs $80 million contract with Abu Dhabi Medical Devices

The agreement is a joint venture partnership with Medeco Protective Safety Equipment Manufacturing — a division of Abu Dhabi Medical Devices Company (ADMD) in the United Arab Emirates — and contracts USMGC to manufacture 12 of its proprietary medical exam glove-making machines. Beginning in the first quarter of 2025, USMGC will deliver 10 nitrile exam glove machine lines and two polyisoprene surgical glove machine lines to Medeco facilities in operation in Saudi Arabia. The joint venture is structured for USMGC to retain a 25% ownership stake.

Hankook Tire is supplying the specially matched Ventus S1 evo Z UUHP (ultra ultra-high performance) tire as original equipment for the new BMW M5.

The brief for the high-performance saloon, now in its seventh model generation, was a meticulously tuned tire. The reason the tires need to meet special requirements is due to the introduction of an electrified drive system in the luxury-class model from BMW M GmbH for the first time in its 40-year history. These requirements include a high load capacity for effortless handling of the PHEV (plug-in hybrid) model. On the other hand, the excellent grip was required to transmit the system output from the V8 engine and electric machine of 535 kW/727 PS, as well as the maximum system torque of 1,000 Newton meters to the road in a controlled manner.

EU delays deforestation regulation by 12 months

The European Council agreed to amending the EU deforestation regulation, delaying its implementation by 12 months. This extension will provide third countries, member states, operators, and traders adequate time to prepare for their due diligence obligations. These obligations require ensuring that certain commodities and products sold in or exported from the EU are deforestation-free. This includes products made from cattle, wood, cocoa, soy, palm oil, coffee, rubber, and some of their derived products.
