Continental’s UltraContact NXT wins Swiss Automotive Show Innovation Award 2023

Hanover, Germany – Continental’s most sustainable production tire to date was named the winner in the “Sustainable Development/Environment” category at the sixth Swiss Automotive Show on August 31, 2023. With up to 65 percent renewable, recycled and mass balance-certified materials, the new summer tire combines a remarkably high share of sustainable materials with maximum safety and performance. At the same time, all dimensions carry the highest possible rating in the EU tire label (“A”) in rolling resistance, wet braking and exterior noise. Continental has started production of the tire in July 2023.

“Continental has set itself very ambitious goals when it comes to the environment,” says Daniel Freund, CEO of Continental Suisse SA and Head of Subregion Alps CH/AT at Continental. “We take a holistic approach – from the product design of environmentally friendly tires, such as the UltraContact NXT, to the consistent reduction of emissions in the supply chain. My thanks go to our ambitious team and the jury for recognizing our many years of innovation in the field of sustainability.”

Continental is working tirelessly to advance innovative technologies and sustainable products and services throughout its entire value chain, from sourcing sustainable materials to recycling end-of-life tires. By 2030 the premium tire manufacturer aims to have over 40 percent renewable and recycled content in its tires. The UltraContact NXT is an important step to fulfill these ambitious sustainability goals and to become the most progressive tire manufacturer, as laid out in Continental’s Vision 2030 strategy program.

The SAS Innovation Awards are presented annually at the Swiss Automotive Show by the Swiss Automotive Group.
