Datwyler enters into agreement with oeko energie for sustainable energy supply

Altdorf, Switzerland – The Swiss Datwyler plant, together with the company oeko energie AG, is operating an innovative “Self-Consumption Network”. This network enables the two companies to share their eco-friendly electricity and to purchase additional electricity on the free market. It also contributes significantly to the local energy transition and serves as a model for a sustainable and independent energy supply.

Substantial amounts of renewable energy are generated as part of this Self-Consumption Network, helping to relieve the burden on the local electrical grid. Photovoltaic systems on the roofs of the participating companies together generate around 1.7 million kWh of electricity per year. With a total area of ​​7,700 square meters, this is the largest photovoltaic system in the canton of Uri, where Datwyler’s Swiss plant is located. The electricity is fed into the public grid at peak times. A further expansion of the photovoltaic systems on the façade of Datwyler’s plant is already planned.

Additionally, a combined heat and power plant has recently started producing around 3 million kWh of electricity and 5 million kWh of heat annually with Swiss wood pellets. In this plant, pellets are converted into wood gas through gasification, which drives a gas engine. This mechanical energy is converted into electrical energy and used mostly in the companies’ own operations. The heat that results from this process is transferred entirely to the existing district heating network. This is the first combined heat and power plant in the canton of Uri.

By commissioning the combined heat and power plant and photovoltaic systems, Datwyler is living up to its ecological and social responsibility and laying the foundations for achieving climate-neutral operations worldwide by 2030.
