Freepoint Eco-Systems completes first pyrolysis oil shipment from Ohio facility

Hebron, OH – Freepoint Eco-Systems LLC has successfully completed the first shipment of pyrolysis oil (PyOil) produced at its advanced recycling facility in Hebron, Ohio. This milestone marks a significant step in the company’s efforts to convert waste plastic into valuable resources, supporting the circular economy and reducing environmental impact.

The PyOil, derived from waste plastic, was transported by rail to Shell USA’s refining facility in Norco, Louisiana. The Hebron facility, which began construction in late 2022 and is ISCC Plus certified, can process 180 million pounds of waste plastic annually. This achievement underscores Freepoint’s commitment to addressing the global plastic waste challenge through innovative recycling technologies.

Jeff McMahon, Managing Director at Freepoint, expressed his excitement about the successful shipment: “We are thrilled to get the first production from our Hebron facility into the market and to help companies and waste collectors upcycle plastic waste into a valuable commodity. By moving PyOil by rail in large quantities, we further increase the carbon benefit of substituting PyOil for traditional feedstocks made from crude oil. Repurposing waste plastic that is otherwise destined for landfills or incinerators at commercial scale is an important step to begin to address the waste plastic problem”.

Laura Chamorro, GM Commercial at Shell Polymers, highlighted the significance of this operation: “Successful operation of facilities such as Freepoint’s demonstrates commercial scale advanced recycling capabilities, which are essential to expanding the availability of recycled materials and supporting growing demand for Shell’s certified circular products”.

Freepoint Eco-Systems continues to lead the way in sustainable solutions, with plans to expand its operations globally. The company announced its intention to build its first pyrolysis plant outside the United States in Belgium, further solidifying its commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation.
