HEXPOL TPE extends hardness range of Mediprene A2 series of thermoplastic elastomers
Malmo, Sweden – Mediprene A2 TPEs bond to thermoplastics such as ABS, PC, PETG and SMMA in overmolding and coextrusion processing. This allows for the integration of features such as seals and grips in medical devices without the need to use adhesives or surface treatments.
“This is a welcome expansion of our Mediprene TPE portfolio”, commented Niklas Ottosson, medical technical manager at HEXPOL TPE AB. “Achieving chemical bonding to engineering thermoplastic substrates with TPE materials of lower hardness is particularly difficult. These challenges have been overcome with the newly developed Mediprene A2 TPE materials with hardnesses from 25 to 65 Shore A”.
Mediprene thermoplastic elastomers are produced with traceability and documentation based on the requirements of ISO 13485:2016 (medical devices) and following the VDI 2017 guideline on medical-grade plastics.
The Mediprene TPEs are produced at HEXPOL TPE’s Swedish site, which has invested heavily in their medical capabilities. Most recently with a 57 million SEK investment in a new production hall, compounding line and advanced monitoring systems dedicated to medical production.
