India’s Rubber Board announces webinar on long term sustainability

Noida, India – On the eve of World Environment Day, the Network for Certification and Conservation of Forests (NCCF) jointly with the Program on Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is organizing a webinar for the Rubber Board, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, on “Promoting Certification of Forests and Rubber Plantations for Long Term Sustainability of the Resource and Rubber Industry in India” on Friday, June 4, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.

A range of stakeholders includes officers of the Rubber Board, rubber cultivators, members from the rubber industry, representatives of state forest development corporations having rubber plantations, experts, sustainability professionals and many more. This webinar is intended to sensitize the rubber industry, plantation owners and other stakeholders in the natural rubber supply chain about the benefits of certification for long term sustainability of natural rubber resources.

The webinar includes the following presentations: Outlook for Indian Natural Rubber Plantation Industry by the Rubber Board; Towards a Sustainable and Resilient Future of Natural Rubber by PEFC International; and Opportunities and Challenges in Certification of Natural Rubber in India using NCCF-PEFC Forest/ToF Certification Schemes by NCCF.

The webinar symbolizes the Rubber Board’s commitment towards sustainable growth of the Indian rubber industry that needs to be climate resilient and should provide necessary assurances to the environmentally conscious consumers across the globe. The Indian rubber industry is growing at a fast pace, both in terms of strength and dominance. It is therefore necessary that natural rubber is produced from sustainable plantations. Certification is globally recognized as the demonstrable evidence of sustainable management of rubber plantations, as well the entire supply chain.

This World Environment Day also marks the beginning of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030.  It is a global call to action to massively scale up restoration, reviving hundreds of millions of hectares, covering terrestrial as well as aquatic ecosystems.
