Michelin announces ‘living wage’ as part of its media day event

Paris, France – The deployment of the living wage on a global scale, which guarantees Michelin group employees remuneration at least equivalent to the “living wage”, a concept defined in the United Nations Global Compact, of which Michelin has been a signatory since 2010.

Michelin received the “Global Living Wage Employer” certification at the beginning of 2024 from the NGO Fair Wage Network, a globally recognized NGO, attesting that all of the Group’s employees receive remuneration at least equivalent to the “living wage”.

This “living wage” or decent salary is defined as the remuneration allowing each employee to provide for the essential needs of their family (food, housing, transport, education of children, health costs, etc.) but also to constitute precautionary savings and to acquire consumer goods. Fair Wage Network takes into account the fixed elements of remuneration enjoyed by an employee. In most cases, the “living wage” references provided by Fair Wage Network are above the legal minimum wage.

The effective implementation of the decent wage complements the ongoing deployment of a universal social protection base as part of the “Michelin One Care Program”. This program guarantees all Group employees around the world a set of social benefits, based on three priorities: offer time to welcome a child, with the establishment of maternity/adoption leave of at least 14 weeks and paternity/adoption leave of at least 4 weeks, paid at 100%. Protect the family of a deceased employee, with the payment of a death benefit of at least one year’s real salary and an education pension for the children until the end of their higher education and whatever the seniority of the employee. Offer access to a health program for all employees and their families, via health coverage covering not only hospitalization or emergencies but also maternity care, consultations and outpatient care.
