Michelin recalls 16,983 vintage vehicle tires sold in the U.S. between 2007-2022

Greeneville, SC – Michelin North America, Inc. has initiated a recall of 16,983 MICHELIN® Vintage Collection tires that were sold into the U.S. market from 2007 to 2022. The tires are period-correct specialty products intended for use on European vintage vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) requires that tire manufacturers comply with a tire marking system that helps ensure tire safety and performance on US roadways. When marked on the side of a tire, the letters “DOT” constitute a certification by the manufacturer that the tire meets all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). This range of low-volume specialty tire lines were inadvertently exported to the US without the requisite DOT marking and updated compliance testing to include FMVSS-specific requirements. The tires are certified to European ECE safety standards, and there have been no safety incidents related to Michelin vintage tires reported in the US. Customers who have purchased these tires in the United States will be eligible to receive replacement tires at no additional charge.
