Rodolfo Comerio unveils international calendaring technology center

Solbiate Olona, Italy — RODOLFO COMERIO has officially inaugurated the COMERIO CALENDERING TECHNOLOGY CENTER, a cutting-edge international hub dedicated to advancing research, development, and experimentation in the industrial calendering sector.

Strategically located in the heart of Italy’s manufacturing district, the center is poised to become a global reference point for companies, engineers, designers, and researchers. Its mission is to foster sustainable, customized, and high-performance solutions in industrial calendering.

The center represents a major strategic investment by RODOLFO COMERIO and offers a fully integrated environment for developing, testing, and validating innovative calendering processes on an industrial scale. Equipped with two complete calendering lines featuring distinct layouts and state-of-the-art technologies, the facility enables realistic production simulations, real-time data collection for feasibility studies, and comprehensive design support from the company’s technical department. Key areas of focus include waste reduction, energy efficiency, rapid production changeovers, and enhanced industrial performance.

The center houses two specialized laboratories:

LAB1 – FloorEng is tailored for the production of SPC, LVT, and advanced resilient flooring. It is capable of processing highly filled polymers and composite materials, making it suitable for applications in the automotive, aerospace, and industrial sectors. Key features include a production capacity of up to 2,000 kg/h, a maximum film width of 430 mm, and a maximum thickness of 6 mm. The lab is equipped with a patented 4-roll calender, inline lamination and embossing systems, and a double winder for continuous processing.

LAB2 is designed for versatility and operational simplicity, serving sectors such as furniture, packaging, waterproof membranes, conveyor belts, and automotive components. It supports both standard and PVC-free productions, with a throughput of up to 2,000 kg/h and a minimum film thickness of 0.035 mm. Like LAB1, it features a 4-roll calender and inline lamination capabilities.

Both laboratories are capable of processing a wide range of plastic and composite materials, including PVC, RPVC, PP, TPO, TPU, TPE, ABS, and various multilayer blends. They also support elastomeric materials such as natural rubber, SBR, EPDM, NBR, neoprene, butyl, fluoroelastomers, and silicone.

The COMERIO CALENDERING TECHNOLOGY CENTER distinguishes itself as a global innovation hub, combining advanced technology with deep industrial expertise. It emphasizes collaboration with universities, startups, and international companies, all while maintaining a strong commitment to ethical and sustainable industrial development.

“With this new technology center, we aim to provide companies worldwide with a space where they can test, innovate, and enhance their production processes with a sustainable and data-driven approach,” stated the RODOLFO COMERIO Management Team.

This new facility marks a significant step forward in the evolution of industrial calendering, reinforcing Italy’s role as a leader in manufacturing innovation.
