Rubber Division announces August learning opportunities

Akron, OH – The Rubber Division, ACS, announces the following learning opportunities for August.

Featured courses for August include: Course: Laboratory Safety Guidance; August 11-12, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. ET: Laboratory safety is more than most think. There are several elements which when all placed together compile a through laboratory safety manual. This course provides someone with little to no experience with occupational safety information on how to not only identify the potential hazards, but how to go about mitigating those hazards and educating colleges with the end result in a detailed laboratory safety manual. Several OSHA standards, as well as other likely subscribed guidelines will be covered.

Course: An Introduction to Continuous Vulcanization; August 19, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. ET: This course was developed for rubber industry employees who currently use continuous vulcanization (CV) processes and wish to expand their knowledge or those who wish to gain insights into these processes and how they can be used. This course will offer an overview of the variety of commercially viable continuous vulcanization processes and their strengths and weaknesses. Following that, it will take the participants into a more in-depth study of the three most common forms of CV: liquid curing media (LCM), better known as the salt bath process; hot air vulcanization (HAV); and microwave/hot air vulcanization. The emphasis will be on practical knowledge that can be utilized in production along with safety concerns that always need to be addressed.

Course: How to Extend Lifetime of Elastomers and Rubber Products; August 25, 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. ET: Centered around aging, this course is designed to be advantageous for both technical and non-technical personnel working in the rubber industry. The objective of this course is to review the rubber aging phenomena and to learn about strategies to prevent aging and extend the lifetime of elastomers and rubber products.

Course: Soft Skills for Scientific Success; August 26, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. ET: This course is for scientists and engineers who would like to discover soft skills/enablers to attain success in technical work environments. Individuals working in or aspiring to work in a wide range of environments, e.g. research and development, quality control, chemical, pharmaceutical, medical devices, technology, etc., could benefit. The course will be of value to those working in multicultural, multigenerational and cross-disciplinary areas. Also, adhering to strict policies and procedures while working under regulatory constraints are not second nature. Considerations for FDA, DEA, EPA and ISO regulated environments will be covered.
