Smithers’ Josh Guilliams to discuss tire regulations at 2024 Clemson Tire Conference
Akron, OH – Smithers announces that Josh Guilliams, Vice President of Consultancy, Materials Science and Engineering Division, will be speaking at the 2024 Clemson University Global Tire Industry Conference in Greenville, South Carolina, from April 23rd to April 25th.
Guilliams’s presentation is titled “Tire Regulatory Activity: The Effects on Development and Testing.” He will discuss current global regulatory and research activities and their impact on tire development and testing. The presentation will cover:
The push for sustainability reporting.
Mandates for electrification around the world.
Regulations regarding 6PPD and other tire particle emissions.
The impact of rolling resistance and tire traction on performance and fuel efficiency.
“Governments around the world are looking more closely at environmental stewardship in tire regulation, from fuel efficiency to raw material selection to 6PPD and other particle emissions,” said Guilliams. “Our goal with this presentation is to showcase both the challenges and the opportunities of balancing sustainability demands with other innovation drivers, such as treadwear, performance, and overall durability.”

Guilliams oversees the Smithers Materials Science and Engineering technical consulting team based in Akron, Ohio. He manages client relationships and conducts in-depth investigations of rubber materials, products, and components. Prior to joining the team at Smithers, Guilliams worked at Polymer Valley Chemicals Inc., Hankook Tire, EASTMAN Chemical Corporation, LANXESS Corporation, and Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations.
