Specialty Silicone Products EMI silicone now MIL-DTL qualified

Ballston Spa, NY – Specialty Silicone Products (SSP) announced that SSP-2569-65, an EMI silicone filled with silver-copper particles, is now part of the Qualified Product List (QPL) for MIL-DTL-83528, Type A. In a July 22, 2021, letter, the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) informed SSP that SSP-2569-65, a 65-durometer conductive elastomer for shielding and sealing, passed qualification testing and has been added to QPL MIL-DTL-83528 for specific drawings and material types.

DLA, the combat logistics support agency for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), maintains a qualifying list of manufacturer part numbers (PNs) that meet the requirements of the lettered sections of MIL-DTL-83528, a specification for electrically conductive gasketing materials that provide shielding against electromagnetic interference. (EMI). Within this U.S. military specification, Type A is for silver-plated, copper-filled silicones capable of 110 dB of plane wave shielding effectiveness at 10 GHz with a continuous use temperature range of -55°C to +160°C. QPL 83528 is the part of the DLA’s Qualified Product List for materials that meet MIL-DTL-83528 requirements.

SSP-2569-65 has a shielding effectiveness of greater than 110 dB and typical values of 145 dB at 20 MHz to 10 GHz (E-Field). This conductive silicone’s volume resistivity, a measure of an insulating material’s resistance to leakage current through its body, has typical values of 0.0015 ohm-cm. Volume resistivity after life testing is also reported. Download the technical data sheet for these and other product specifications, including volume resistivity after EMP.  SSP-2569-65 is supplied as fully-cured conductive sheet stock, continuous extrusion profiles, and ready-to-mold compounds. It is tan in color.
