Sumitomo Riko joins the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR)
Nagoya-shi, Japan – Sumitomo Riko Company Limited announced that it has become a member of the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR) as of July 25.
Established in October 2018, the GPSNR is an international platform comprised of tire makers, automakers, trading companies and other companies that handle natural rubber. Currently, GPSNR has over 200 members that represent over 55% of the global natural rubber demand. These members strive to maintain and improve the value chain of sustainable natural rubber from a social, environmental, and economic perspective.
The Sumitomo Riko Group has the largest share of the automotive anti-vibration rubber market in the world, and it manufactures and sells various rubber products for a wide range of purposes. Such products include anti-vibration rubber, hoses, precision parts for office automation equipment, and anti-seismic & seismic control devices. We use more than ten types of raw rubber, and 40% or more of these are natural rubber. Consequently, the sustainable procurement of natural rubber is essential for a steady supply of high-quality products in the future.
