The Goodyear Foundation (Goodyear) is committing $1.6 million to The University of Akron (UA) for a new program designed to increase job readiness training for underserved students called The Driving Opportunity Scholars Program. Goodyear’s gift will support full tuition and fees scholarships for 15 undergraduate students over the next three years, with the first five beginning this fall. Selected freshmen will represent a wider range of under-represented communities in the workplace and will be enrolled in a training and mentoring program for up to five years.Read more
The release of the premium all-season tire comes on the heels of a new study from Goodyear, which also reveals that 80 percent of those traveling this summer are most comfortable doing so via their personal vehicle as opposed to air travel or other transportation methods, and that 65 percent of drivers’ next road trips will be 200 miles or more.Read more
The first power station will be a photovoltaic carport consisting of 1,500 solar panels, covering a parking lot of around 4,000 square meters. With an annual production of 657,500 kWh, the carport will be the first in Luxembourg of this scale and will generate enough energy to supply a number of households.
Completion of the first station is targeted for August 2021, while plans for the second power station are targeted for 2022.
When finished, both stations will produce annually around 5 GWh of electric power and reduce carbon emissions by around 50,000 tons for the next 20 years, while providing clean energy yearly for more than 1,200 households.
Goodyear and the International Soap Box Derby are hosting a Mini-Car Championship Race as part of Goodyear’s annual STEM Career Day, an outreach event encouraging high school and middle school students to pursue opportunities in various science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. The event is being live streamed from Goodyear’s Innovation Center at the company’s headquarters in Akron, OH.
In collaboration with the Soap Box Derby, Goodyear sent mini Soap Box Derby car kits to more than 1,300 students across Northeast Ohio, allowing students to explore different STEM applications connected to racing.
