USTMA praises bipartisan work of Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works

Washington, D.C. – The Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works voted unanimously to advance the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Act of 2021. The bill, which will provide historic levels of funding to the country’s aging surface infrastructure, includes several provisions that will help advance research and integration of technologies derived from scrap tire rubber into future infrastructure projects. “It is encouraging to see senators reach across the aisle to craft this comprehensive bill to advance our shared priorities in surface transportation,” said Anne Forristall Luke, USTMA president and CEO. “With the inclusion of several research provisions on innovative pavement and storm water runoff control, we are confident that forward-looking solutions, like rubber modified asphalt and tire derived aggregate, will be able to prove their worth and help to contribute to a circular and sustainable scrap tire market economy.” USTMA previously issued a letter identifying the policy priorities of the U.S. tire manufacturing community as Congressional leaders continue their negotiations with the White House.
