Yokohama Rubber launches an energy-efficient and flame-retardant conveyor belt

Hiratsuka, Japan—The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. announced that it has launched a new conveyor belt in its highly regarded FLAME GUARD series of flame-retardant conveyor belts. The new addition, the FLAME GUARD ECO, offers improved energy-saving performance.

FLAME GUARD ECO was developed for use on coal transport lines at ports and thermal power plants, which require flame-retardant conveyor belts for fire safety reasons. By using technologies cultivated during its development of its ECOTEX conveyor belts, which have achieved world-class power-saving performance, Yokohama Rubber developed a new rubber compound to improve energy-saving performance. This reduces rubber deformation as the belt passes over the rollers—a factor contributing to energy loss. As a result, running resistance is lowered and power consumption is reduced. By combining flame resistance with energy efficiency, FLAME GUARD ECO boosts operational safety while also helping to reduce energy costs and lower environmental impact through decreased carbon dioxide emissions.

The FLAME GUARD series provides a crucial self-extinguishing safety feature. This versatile range of conveyor belts meets various operational needs, offering combinations like flame retardancy with superior wear resistance, resistance to heavy oils, resistance to medium and high temperatures. For enhanced efficiency, the FLAME GUARD ECO model minimizes resistance during roller passage.

In Yokohama Transformation 2026 (YX2026), the company’s medium-term management plan for fiscal years 2024–2026, Yokohama Rubber aims to solidify its leading share in Japan’s conveyor belt market, one of the core products in the MB Segment’s industrial products business. This effort will include creating new added value that contributes to the safety, security, and economic efficiency of users of Yokohama Rubber’s conveyor belts.
