USTMA projects modest growth in U.S. tire shipments for 2026

Washington, DC – The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) released its February 2026 shipment forecast, projecting a modest increase in total tire shipments across the U.S. market compared with the prior year. According to the association’s latest data, total shipments are expected to reach 338.9 million units in 2026, up from 336.3 million units in 2025 and from 332.7 million recorded in 2019. The expected total would surpass the previous high of 337.3 million units in 2024, underscoring continued growth in the sector.

Original equipment (OE) tire shipments — which include tires supplied directly to vehicle manufacturers — are also forecast to rise in 2026. Passenger, light truck, and truck OE tire categories are each expected to see increases compared with 2025, amounting to an overall gain of roughly 0.8 million units. Replacement tire shipments — those sold into the aftermarket — are projected to add an estimated 1.7 million units across passenger, light truck, and truck segments.

Industry analysts point to a steady demand for replacement tires as a key driver of shipment growth. Passenger replacement tires are expected to account for the largest share of total volumes, while light truck and truck replacement sectors continue to show incremental gains.

USTMA highlighted that the 2026 forecast reflects both lingering market resilience following pandemic-related disruptions and broader trends in vehicle usage and maintenance patterns. The association noted that continued economic activity and consumer reliance on personal and commercial vehicles support steady aftermarket demand.

USTMA’s forecast also included updated shipment breakdowns by category and year-over-year changes, underscoring the complex dynamics shaping tire production and consumption in the United States.
