Akron Polymer Cluster, University of Warwick form transatlantic partnership
Akron, OH — The Polymer Industry Cluster and the University of Warwick in Coventry, United Kingdom, have launched a collaboration aimed at accelerating polymer and advanced materials innovation and commercialization between the U.S. and U.K.
The partnership will connect Warwick researchers and spinouts with Greater Akron’s polymer industry, scale-up facilities and commercialization network, while giving Polymer Industry Cluster companies and researchers access to Warwick’s research expertise, facilities, talent and innovation network.
The collaboration is intended to help researchers move technologies beyond the laboratory, identify commercial and research partners and enter new markets. Planned efforts include access to pilot-scale capabilities, connections with companies and investors, technology licensing, venture creation and support for organizations seeking U.S. and U.K. partnerships.
The initiative also calls for joint workshops, showcase events and reciprocal visits to connect researchers, companies and innovation teams from both regions.
“Connecting Greater Akron’s industrial and commercialization capabilities with Warwick’s world-class research, talent and innovation network will help companies and researchers find the right partners faster,” said Hans Dorfi, executive director and chief innovation officer of the Polymer Industry Cluster.
Dr. Tim Hart, director of Warwick Innovations, said the partnership is designed to provide access to complementary ecosystems and accelerate commercialization.
The Polymer Industry Cluster was launched in 2021 and is powered by the Greater Akron Chamber. The initiative focuses on strengthening Northeast Ohio’s polymer industry and supporting sustainable growth.
