Ansell Limited announces commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions
Iselin, NJ – Ansell Limited has announced a landmark commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by fiscal year 2045. This pledge marks one of the most ambitious sustainability goals in the company’s 130-year history.
The initiative is underpinned by science-based targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), ensuring that Ansell’s climate strategy aligns with global efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C. The company’s roadmap includes both near-term and long-term milestones aimed at drastically reducing emissions across its operations and supply chain.
By FY2030, Ansell plans to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions—those directly generated by its operations—by 42% from a FY2020 baseline. Scope 3 emissions, which include indirect emissions from fuel use and product end-of-life treatment, are targeted for a 25% reduction from a FY2022 baseline. Additionally, Ansell aims to ensure that 90% of its suppliers by spend will have science-based targets in place by the end of the decade.
Looking further ahead, the company is committed to cutting Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 90% by FY2040 and Scope 3 emissions by 90% by FY2045.
To meet these goals, Ansell is implementing a multi-pronged strategy that includes:
Enhancing energy efficiency and maintaining ISO-certified energy management systems.
Transitioning to renewable energy across owned and controlled sites.
Engaging suppliers to adopt SBTi-aligned targets.
Innovating with lower-impact materials and sustainable product designs.
Expanding recycling and end-of-life initiatives for its products.
Strengthening transparency through robust reporting and accountability measures.
CEO Neil Salmon emphasized the importance of collaboration and innovation in achieving these targets. “This is not just about reducing our own footprint—it’s about helping our customers meet their sustainability goals too,” he said. “We’re proud to lead the way toward a more sustainable future.”
Ansell has already made notable progress, including a 19% reduction in operational emissions through a multi-year investment program. The company views its net-zero commitment as both a moral imperative and a strategic business move, reinforcing its role as a responsible industry leader.
