The Detroit Rubber Group will hold a Fishing Outing July 11 at the Toledo Beach Marina in La Salle, MI. Attendees are requested to arrive at 6:30 a.m., and the boat is scheduled to depart at 7 a.m. and return at noon. The cost to participate in the event is $195 per person, and this price includes the outing itself and not any extra services, extra gear or lodging accommodations. Liberia establishes a National Board for Rubber and continues ban on unprocessed rubber

The Rubber Board will regulate the prices of rubber on the Liberian market. Additionally, the Liberian Senate voted that Executive Order 124, which prohibits the exportation of unprocessed rubber from Liberia, remain enforced.

The Senate’s decision upholding the ban on the exportation of unprocessed rubber followed an in-depth investigation by its Committee on Agriculture.

Legislation introduced to lower tire retreading costs via tax credits

U.S. Reps. Darin LaHood (R-IL) and Emilia Sykes (D-OH) introduced legislation to lower tire costs by providing a tax credit for purchasing retreaded tires.

The legislation, Retreaded Truck Tire Jobs, Supply Chain Security and Sustainability Act, would provide U.S. consumer with tax credits for purchasing tires that have had the tread on them replaced. The legislation will help create good-paying jobs, bolster the domestic supply chain and promote economic growth, the law makers said.

Bridgestone-Firestone tractor tire plant in Des Moines announces layoffs

Bridgestone-Firestone’s Des Moines plant, which produces most of the company’s tractor tires, confirmed that it would be cutting jobs. While the company did not disclose the exact number of layoffs, Keenan Bell, president of the United Steelworkers Union 310L, estimates that it affects all employees with two or fewer years of seniority. Approximately 118 workers fall into that category out of the plant’s 900 employees. This marks the first layoff at the Des Moines plant since 1990.
