Cambodia reports a 38 percent increase in rubber exports

The Phnom Penh Post reports that Cambodia earned $206.728 million from the export of “rubber and articles thereof” in the first four months of 2023, up 38.0 per cent year-on-year from $149.808 million and up 22.7 per cent half-on-half (compared to July-October 2022) from $168.5 million, according to provisional Customs (GDCE) data in “International Merchandise Trade Statistics” bulletins.

Researchers at Nagoya University and Zeon Corporation receive two awards for styrenic TPE

Researchers at Nagoya University and Zeon Corporation received two awards in May 2023 for the development of tough noncovalently-functionalized styrenic thermoplastic elastomers. They chemically modified Zeon’s QuintacTM, a styrenic thermoplastic elastomer marketed by Zeon Corporation, to develop “tough functionalized styrenic thermoplastic elastomers”. Since the newly developed SIS with noncovalently-functionalized polyisoprene is a lightweight yet tough and highly impact resistant material, its development should contribute to the goal of reaching a net-zero carbon and sustainable society.

Chinaplas 2023 has record breaking attendance

The largest ever CHINAPLAS was successfully concluded at the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center, PR China on April 20. The show results were impressively indicating a great surge with 3,905 exhibitors from 38 countries and regions around the world. The show occupied 380,000sqm and recorded an attendance of 248,222 visitors from 149 countries and regions. 28,429 visitors came from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan region and overseas, accounting for 11.45% of the total. Compared with the 2019 Guangzhou Exhibition, the total number of visitors increased by 51.99%, and compared with the 2021 Shenzhen Exhibition, it increased by 63.16%

Firestone used hard-to-recycle plastic in tires for 107th running of the Indianapolis 500

As the series’ exclusive tire supplier, Bridgestone has incorporated ISCC PLUS certified recycled butadiene, a monomer produced from hard-to-recycle used plastic shopping bags, film, stretch wrap and other flexible polymer packaging, developed in partnership with Shell, in all Firestone Firehawk race tires used at the Indianapolis 500. Bridgestone will manufacture all race tires for the 2023 season at the ISCC PLUS-certified Advanced Tire Production Center (ATPC) in Akron. Additionally, Bridgestone has partnered with Penske and Indianapolis Motor Speedway to transport all race tires to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) with electric 2023 Freightliner eCascadia from Penske Truck Leasing’s fleet of electric vehicles during the month of May.

Michelin divests from its remaining Russian operations

After suspending its industrial activities in Russia on March 15, 2022, following the start of the conflict in the Ukraine, Michelin announced the signature of an agreement with Power International Tires LLC for the purchase of its two local companies, Michelin Russia Tyre Manufacturing Company (MRTMC) LLC and Camso CIS LLC. A known partner of Michelin, Power International Tires is one of the main tire distributors in Russia and has a presence throughout the country.

United States seeks Mexico’s review of alleged denial of workers’ rights at Goodyear plant

United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai announced that the United States has asked Mexico to review whether workers at a facility operated by Goodyear SLP, S. de R.L. de C.V. in the city and state of San Luis Potosí are being denied the rights to freedom of association and collective bargaining. The request, which was made in response to a petition, marks the eighth time the United States has formally invoked the Rapid Response Labor Mechanism (RRM) in the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
