At its Nünchritz site, Wacker Chemie AG produces silicon-based chemical substances, including some 200 different silicone grades, pyrogenic silicas and hyperpure polycrystalline silicon for the solar industry. The plant also operates a cartridge-filling facility for silicone adhesives and sealants. The low-waste and energy-efficient closed-loop production complex continues to cut energy consumption and reduces the environmental impact of wastewater and emissions. Silicones and polysilicon from Saxony are exported all over the world.

Tires, another damaging waste stream in Puerto Rico; up to 18,000 tires being are disposed of daily on the island. The project aims to transform discarded tires into valuable resources, reduce landfill waste and contribute to a circular economy. There are significant import and export constraints on the island for plastics. By harnessing advancements in recycling technologies and circular design principles, the partners seek to make plastic recycling viable in Puerto Rico to reduce plastic waste issue and the island’s dependence on imports.

Freudenberg-NOK Sealing Technologies recently presented its SEAL (Supplier Excellence Achievement Level) Awards to six vendors that provided outstanding service and support to the company during 2022. Freudenberg-NOK runs the business operations for Freudenberg Sealing Technologies in the Americas.

Earthjustice, an environmental litigation group, notified over a dozen American tire manufacturers of their intent to sue them over violations of the Endangered Species Act if they do not stop the use of 6PPD. In the letter to the tire manufacturers Earthjustice gave the companies 60 days to cease the “unauthorized take of these species” before they engage in litigation against the manufacturers.

This latest series, Sarlink® RX 3100B, was developed to help automotive brands achieve sustainability targets, by incorporating up to 40% post-industrial recyclate, depending on the hardness. These multi-purpose TPVs are suitable for injection molding, extrusion, overmolding and co-extrusion with polypropylene or other thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs). For these high-durometer grades, applications include the backbone or carrier for extruded seals, like in glass run channels, or boots, bellows, and other under hood components.
