Hankook Tire completes first leg of cross-country EV tour

Hankook Tire has successfully completed the first leg of a cross-country tour in the all-electric Volkswagen ID.4 on Hankook iON AS evo and iON i*cept SUV. Guinness World Records holder Rainer Zietlow began the journey in Homer, Alaska’s southernmost road network point, on March 23, 2023. On April 4, Rainer and his team arrived in Deadhorse, Alaska, located at the end of the Dalton Highway on Alaska’s north coast. This marks the first time that an electric vehicle (EV) has reached the northernmost point of the US-Highway System by overland driving in Spring with temperatures around minus 10°F.

Bridgestone accelerates toward production of 100% sustainable tire

Bridgestone Americas (Bridgestone) announced it has produced a run of demonstration tires made with 75% recycled and renewable materials, including synthetic rubber made with recycled plastics and natural rubber harvested from desert shrubs grown domestically, in the Arizona desert. The company has completed production of 200 demonstration tires and is pursuing joint evaluation with automakers for use on the next generation of electrified SUVs and crossovers (CUVs).

Goodyear reveals 125th anniversary logo for Goodyear 400

In celebration of Goodyear’s 125th anniversary this year, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company announced a special sidewall logo design for the Official Throwback Weekend of NASCAR during the weekend of May 12-14, 2023. The vintage logo sidewall design features the historic Goodyear Wingfoot logo, originally created in 1898, and coincides with the special 75th anniversary NASCAR Throwback Weekend of races held at the Darlington Raceway.
The limited-edition sidewall design will be featured on 3,500 tires at all three national series races during Darlington Raceway weekend serving as a special tribute to the longevity of the relationship between NASCAR and Goodyear, the longest-tenured sponsor in the sport.

Bridgestone develops custom-engineered tires for the new Lamborghini Revuelto

Bridgestone Americas (Bridgestone) announced has once again been chosen by Lamborghini as its exclusive tire partner for the new Revuelto, Lamborghini’s first-ever super sports V12 HPEV (High Performance Electrified Vehicle). Bridgestone developed bespoke Potenza Sport high-performance tires for the Lamborghini Revuelto, which features three electric motors powering the front wheels, and a V12 internal combustion engine powering the rear wheels.

Alpha Technologies collaborates with University of Akron to support sustainable polymer research

Alpha Technologies will donate a $10,000 scholarship each year for the next five years to the UA School of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering. Additionally, the company will donate a new Premier® RPA (Rubber Process Analyzer) for University use. The donation will support a number of researchers, including Dr. Li Jia, professor of polymer science and chemistry, who is working on overcoming performance issues with the use of recycled rubber so that more sustainable tires can become a reality.

The volume of disposed end-of-life tires has been steadily growing to reach 3.5 million tons per year in Europe alone. While growth in end-of-life tires is forecasted to further accelerate in the next decade due to consumer and regulatory trends, the recycling technology, infrastructure and processes necessary to properly dispose of them at scale have not yet been effectively implemented until now. Today’s announcement to establish a sustainable solution to recycle end-of-life tires on an industrial scale marks a world first.

Bridgestone, Goodyear, Maxxis, Hankook and Michelin recognized by GM as Supplier of the Year

General Motors celebrated its top global suppliers during its annual Supplier of the Year event held in San Antonio, Texas. In total, 121 suppliers were recognized at the event, with 105 suppliers receiving a Supplier of the Year award, 14 suppliers receiving an Overdrive award and two suppliers receiving both Supplier of the Year and Overdrive awards. Collectively, the awarded suppliers represented 17 countries.

The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., has announced that, on March 24, the European Commission granted unconditional antitrust clearance of the planned acquisition of all outstanding shares of Trelleborg Wheel Systems Holding AB (hereinafter, TWS), a Swedish company engaged in the manufacture and sale of off-highway tires for agricultural and industrial machinery, which was originally announced on March 25, 2022.
