CDC urges Vietnamese investors to develop agricultural-industrial zones in Cambodia

Phnom Penh, Cambodia – The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has called on Vietnamese investors to explore opportunities in the creation of agricultural-industrial zones within the Kingdom. This initiative aims to meet the growing demand for rubber processing and other agricultural production.

During a bilateral meeting on April 3, Chea Vuthy, Secretary-General of the CDC’s Cambodia Investment Board, emphasized the potential benefits of such investments. The meeting was attended by a delegation from the Vietnamese Rubber Industry Association, led by Truong Minh Trung, Deputy General-Director of Vietnam Rubber Group and Chairman of the Rubber Plantation Development Committee.

Vuthy highlighted Cambodia’s investment potential, particularly in the rubber industry, which has seen increasing domestic demand due to the rise in local tire manufacturing. He encouraged Vietnamese investors to consider establishing agricultural-industrial zones to concentrate companies involved in processing rubber and other agricultural products.

The CDC assured its support for Vietnamese investments, with Vuthy noting the Kingdom’s favorable investment climate and the benefits of direct investments in Cambodia. He pointed out that the establishment of these zones would not only meet domestic demand but also support local industries.

Truong Minh Trung expressed gratitude for the CDC’s insights and shared updates on the association’s progress. He also indicated a keen interest in expanding investments in clean energy production in Cambodia.

According to the Rubber Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, Cambodia exported 338,000 tons of rubber to international markets in 2024, generating $666.25 million in revenue. Despite a slight decrease in export volume compared to 2023, domestic rubber production has increased, driven by the growing number of tire manufacturing factories.

The CDC’s call for investment in agricultural-industrial zones is seen as a strategic move to bolster Cambodia’s agricultural sector and enhance its economic growth.
