Continental announces major restructuring: ContiTech to operate independently
Hanover, Germany – In a significant move, Continental AG has announced that its ContiTech group sector will become an independent entity. This decision marks a pivotal step in Continental’s strategic realignment, aimed at creating three strong, independent companies focused on their respective industries.
ContiTech will operate independently as a material solutions specialist with a strong industrial focus. The exact form of the transaction and the timetable for independence will be determined in the next phase. Continental AG will shift its focus to becoming a global leader in the tire industry. This follows the planned spin-off of its Automotive group sector and the sale of the Original Equipment Solutions (OESL) business area.
Dr. Ariane Reinhart, Executive Board member for HR and Sustainability, will step down on June 30, 2025. Ulrike Hintze will take over as director of Labor Relations and Executive Board member for HR effective July 1, 2025.
Nikolai Setzer, CEO of Continental, emphasized the importance of this restructuring: “We are creating three strong, independent champions that will achieve their full growth and value creation potential as independent companies. This realignment is the most far-reaching in our company’s history and is essential for our future success.”
Continental has laid the groundwork for this transformation through targeted acquisitions and organic growth over the past 30 years. The company aims to position its Tires, ContiTech, and Automotive sectors as leaders in their respective markets.
The independence of ContiTech is expected to be implemented by 2026, subject to necessary resolutions. This move is anticipated to enhance the agility and decisiveness of the company, enabling it to better navigate the dynamic market landscape.
Continental’s commitment to sustainability and innovation remains strong, with its premium tires already being supplied to 18 of the world’s 20 highest-volume manufacturers of fully electric vehicles.
