Enviro completes installation of pyrolysis reactors at Uddevalla recycling plant
Uddevalla, Sweden – The final piece of core equipment has now been installed at the tire recycling facility under construction in Uddevalla, Sweden. Swedish environmental technology company Enviro has confirmed that all five pyrolysis reactors—central to the plant’s main recycling process—have been delivered and assembled on schedule.
“With the delivery of the fifth and final reactor, all equipment included in the main process is now in place and fully assembled,” said Fredrik Emilson, CEO of Enviro.
The main process at the plant includes the pyrolysis reactors and a system known as the “main skid,” which circulates gas through the reactors and condenses it to extract oil. This stage is where key materials—carbon black, oil, and steel—are recovered from end-of-life tires. These are then refined and stored in the post-process phase.
The reactors began arriving in late August in batches at the site outside Uddevalla, where Enviro is building its first full-scale recycling facility. The plant is being developed by Infiniteria, a joint venture between Enviro, Antin Infrastructure Partners, and Michelin.
Construction has been underway for approximately 18 months and is now entering its final stages. With most of the process equipment installed, the focus is shifting to completing the remaining installation work. The plant is expected to become operational by the end of 2025, with provisional acceptance anticipated by mid-2026.
In its initial phase, the facility will be capable of processing 34,500 tons of used tires annually.
“Having followed this construction in detail since it first started on a snowy day in February last year, it feels very good to see the five reactors in place,” Emilson added. “The reactors are the most central part of the entire plant as they are the core of our recycling technology. It is in these that we will recycle valuable carbon black and oil and contribute to a more sustainable and circular society with good profitability.”
