High performance tires thanks to the liquid dosing system and high performance additives
by Patrick Buder, Zeppelin Systems GmbH, and Sara Liébana Viñas, Evonik Industries AG.
A liquid dosing system allows specialized high-performance additives to be dosed as pure liquids in their viscous form, without carrier material or waxes, to reduce rolling resistance in EV tires.
Electric cars are heavier than vehicles with combustion engines. This results in a higher rolling resistance, which increases energy consumption and reduces range. Another effect is increased wear on the tire, which is caused by the electric motorʼs higher torque. There are also new requirements for tire rolling noise, since this is more noticeable in electric vehicles. At the same time, research is being carried out on more sustainable raw materials, such as recycled rubber or recovered plastic from plastic bottles, to reduce the environmental impact of tire production. In a nutshell: With the new requirements for tires, the demands on the raw materials used, their processing and the related material handling are also increasing.
